Team of medical workers from Moldova goes on humanitarian mission in Romania

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/- 22 doctors and 10 paramedics from the Republic of Moldova will work with their colleagues in Romania to contribute to the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The team will operate in the modular hospital in Lețcani, Iași County, Romania. The humanitarian mission will take place on 18-31 October, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The decision comes after the pandemic situation in Romania has worsened in recent days, the country being in the last days on the first place in the world after the number of daily deaths caused by COVID -19.
"Hospitals in Romania are overwhelmed by the number of COVID-19 patients. In this extremely serious situation, the Government of the Republic of Moldova comes with a symbolic gesture, because we understand that it is necessary to join forces because, more than ever, the medical staff and the health system of Romania need help. Solidarity and responsibility are crucial at the moment, representing the principles on which the European Union is based ", Prime Minister Gavrilița said.
The 11 doctors and 11 nurses who go on a mission today are from the Republican Clinical Hospital Timofei Moşneaga, the Institute of Emergency Medicine, the district hospitals Glodeni, Dondușeni and Stefan Vodă. Most of them are specialists in intensive care and all have experience in COVID-19 treatment. The members of the two teams of SMURD paramedics are employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (Chisinau and Balti subdivisions).
Since the beginning of the pandemic crisis, Romania has constantly supported the Republic of Moldova.
Thus, in May 2020, a team of 40 doctors and nurses worked in hospitals in the Republic of Moldova. Also in May 2020, Romania donated 20 trucks with medical equipment. In February 2021, our country benefited from lots of medical protective equipment for medical staff (masks, coveralls, gloves), the total value amounting to about 2.3 million euros. At the same time, Romania donated to the Republic of Moldova about 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.
