Moldovan historian celebrates 70th birth anniversary

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/- Historian, political commentator and politician Anatol Țăranu, deputy in the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova turned 70 today.
Anatol Țăranu spent his professional career, successively holding various positions, including that of head of laboratory at the Faculty of History of the State University of Moldova (1988-1990). Formed on the initiative of the Association of Moldovan Historians, the laboratory led by the historian A. Țăranu managed to bring to public knowledge for the first time a series of topics previously ignored or banned from research in official historiography, publishing studies and articles on Stalinist collectivizations, famine in the years 1946-1947, the deportations from the MSSR, etc. From 1990 to 1993 he held the position of director of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
Re-employed in 2009 at the Institute of History, State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, as a coordinating scientific researcher, he continues to combine historical research with political analysis and consultancy, constituting the Center for Strategic Research and Political Consulting " Politicon ”, whose director is since 2010. He is the author of over 50 scientific publications.
He was awarded the Civic Merit medal (1996) and the Order of the Republic (2011).
