ANSA employees, economic agents from northern Moldova investigated by CNA for corruption

Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/- Two employees of the Territorial Directorate of Food Safety Bălți (DTSA) of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA), as well as two economic agents are being investigated by the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) and anti-corruption prosecutors in several criminal cases for passive and active corruption.
According to the CNA, they are suspected of extorting money from economic agents to issue them veterinary certificates and other acts of conformity for the marketing of food products.
According to the investigation data, two employees of DTSA Bălți allegedly demanded, accepted and received from various individuals and economic agents sums of money and food products, in order to issue them sanitary-veterinary certificates, operating authorizations and registration certificates for food safety. They also allegedly bribed for the performance of veterinary examinations, checks, issuance of passports for pets, without performing the necessary checks.
Officers from the CNA's Northern Territorial Directorate conducted 15 searches of the suspects' homes, cars and service offices yesterday. "Four people, including two economic agents and two ANSA Balti officials are being investigated, in a state of freedom, for passive and active corruption. If found guilty, they risk up to 10 years in prison, a criminal fine of up to 400,000 lei and deprivation of the right to hold public office from 7 to 10 years, "said CNA.
The North Office of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
