Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - A laboratory for carrying out COVID-19 tests from Causeni will start working as of the next week. The laboratory will take over for processing some of the samples from the southern region of Moldova.  The director of the National Public Health Agency, (ANSP), Nicolae Jelamschi, today made statements to this effect at a news conference.

For his part, the head of the Causeni Public Health Centre, Andrei Cazacioc, said that this laboratory was much expected. ‘’We are in the end of the preparations. On 31 January, we will have actions of training and arrangement and subsequently we plan to start the work. Initially, we will have two employees at the laboratory; yet, depending on the needs, we will increase the staff. The things are the same as to the tests too. The number of samples processed could be increased, if necessary,’’ Andrei Cazacioc noted.

Presently, ANSP carries out laboratory tests for COVID in Balti, Cahul, Soroca and Comrat. A laboratory in Edinet has recently started working, which takes a part of the samples from north Moldova for processing.

A laboratory will begin working at the Chisinau public health centre in one month at the latest.

„The laboratories now work at 50 per cent of their capacities; yet, there are reserves. If the structures from Causeni and Chisinau start working, we will cope with all problems coming from the medical institutions, as well as the residents. Tests also against payment will be able to be made at all these laboratories, according to the tariffs approved by the government,’’ the ANSP head added.
