Moldovan carriers' problem can be solved only through dialogue, says Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry (MIDR) has come up with a reaction to a declaration by a group of carriers who threatened with the ceasing of work, if the tariff for passengers is not increased.

MIDR said that „it remains dedicated to ensuring a quality transport and at accessible prices for the citizens, through a fair, efficient and institutional dialogue with the carriers.’’ ‘’We mention that today is the last day of public consultations on the draft Order on the establishment of the tariffs for carrying out the road transportations of passengers through regular services in districts and inter-district traffic,’’ the ministry said.

According to the institution, the goal of this Order is namely to bring more clarity to the setting of tariffs and to integrate the viewpoint of the carriers. ‘’In this context, we describe as non-constructive the message of a small group of carriers, who make public pressures with the ceasing of the passenger road traffic services in the country’s districts, just before the taking of a final decision, according to the legal terms established on the consultation of this Order,’’ the ministry also said.

According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the solution remains the dialogue. ‘’It should take place without triggering fear among those who benefit from public transport services and without pressures on the ministry which defends the citizens’ interests. We do not agree at all with the actions of those who, although they represent a small part of the carriers, they contribute, with or without political influence, to the destabilization of the situation in the passenger transport,’’ the quoted source noted.

After the finishing of the public consultations on the days to come, the Ministry is committed to bring to knowledge all decisions on the conditions of tariffing of the passenger road transport, taking into account all proposals by the passenger road transport companies.

The Association of Employers of Motor Transport Operators today submitted an open letter to Deputy PM, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu, according to which the carriers threaten that, as a token of protest,  they would cease the work of the regular routes in early next February, if the government does not fulfill the requirements earlier announced – the increase in tariffs for passengers.
