MP of Moldovan Party of Socialists stripped off parliamentary immunity

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament permitted the lift of the parliamentary immunity of lawmaker Radu Mudreac. Fifty six MPs voted for stripping Mudreac off parliamentary immunity, while the lawmakers of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BECS) blocked the parliament’s central rostrum.
Today, acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu came to parliament, in order to demand the lift of the immunity of the MP of the Party of Communists (PSRM).
According to the application presented to the lawmakers, under an Ordinance by the acting Prosecutor General, on 20 April 2022, decision-makers started the criminal prosecution on a criminal file against Moldovan MP Radu Mudreac, as well as other persons on the fact of existence of a reasonable suspicion as to the committing of the offence provided for in the Article 243, paragraph 3, letter b of the Criminal Code.
The application was initially considered by the members of the juridical commission for appointments and immunities, after which also in plenary meeting.
According to the Article 95 of the parliament’s regulation, if an MP commits an offence or a contravention, the Prosecutor General can ask the parliament to lift the immunity of this lawmaker, in order to take procedural measures of detaining, rummage, arrest or sending to court. The application on lifting the immunity is submitted for each offence or contravention separately.
