Chisinau, May 9 / MOLDPRES /- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu addressed a message on the occasion of Europe Day, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The message reads:
"May 9 in our country is the day when we commemorate those who fell in World War II, we honor the veterans who fought for peace and paid with blood the price of the most terrible war in human history.
May 9 is also the day 72 years ago, a peaceful, prosperous and united Europe was born. For the whole of Europe 9 May means peace, freedom, democracy, equality, respect for human dignity and human rights, the power of the rule of law and institutions that look after the interests of its citizens.
All of this would not have been celebrated today without the common effort of World War II years, when all our countries, all our parents, and our grandparents came together to oppose the evil that threatened the entire planet. It was a victory of solidarity and unity.
And this year, Europe is more united than ever in the message of solidarity for peace, in our firm message to stop the war in Ukraine.
9 May is still a day when we learn from the wounds of the past to be stronger and more prosperous in the future. And the future of our country can only be in the great European family with whom we share aspirations and a common path of development and modernization ".
