Moldovan writer launches novel

Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - A novel titled, Avionul mirosea a pește sau iarna preotesei (The airship smelt of fish or the winter of clergyman’s wife), the second edition, signed by writer Nicolae Popa, was launched at the Republica literary circle, held at the National History Museum of Moldova on 15 June.
At the event, Writer Maria Sleahtitchi said that the novel showed the state of the Bessarabian society in transition, of the ordinary intellectual, almost crushed by a world with inverted values.
The work has 282 pages and was published with the support of Moldova’s Culture Ministry.
Nicolae Popa was born in the Buda village, central Calarasi district, in 1959. In 1978, he finished the poly-graphic school from Chisinau and in 1983 – the State University of Moldova, Journalism Faculty. In 1987-1989, Popa continued his education at the M. Gorki Literature Institute from Moscow. Nicolae Popa was awarded the Youth Prize (1988), the Prize of the Moldovan Writers’ Union (1996, 2001, 2003 and 2008), Vasile Vasilache Prize at the Chisinau-based International Book Saloon (2008), the Prize of the Romanian Writers’ Union for the best poetry book (2008), etc.
