Chisinau, 5 July /MOLDPRES/ - The European Parliament today voted for the liberalization of the exports in farming products from Moldova to the European Union. European MP Siegfried Muresan has made statements to this effect on a social network.
The official stressed that this vote represented the solidarity of the European Parliament with the farmers from Moldova. ‘’We voted by wide majority – 572 votes for, 28 against and 32 abstentions, for the European Commission’s proposals of doubling , during one, of the shares of export for seven categories of agricultural products from Moldova, for which tariff contingents are still enforced at the entrance into the EU market. The European Union is already the principal commercial partner of Moldova. Almost two thirds of the Moldovan exports have their destination the European market,’’ Siegfried Muresan said.
The MEP noted that the decision had been taken, given that the war in Ukraine strongly hit the farmers from Moldova, blocking the exports of agricultural products to countries from the east. ‘’For this reason, we have more times asked in the European Parliament to liberalize the exports in agricultural products from Moldova to the EU market. In early last June, the European Commission came up with a proposal of regulation to double, during year, the export quotas, i.e. the volume of goods for which no customs duties are charged on those seven products, for which tariff contingents are still applied. I want the measure voted not to remain a temporary one and to be a new step towards Moldova’s integration into the single European market,’’ Siegfried Muresan said.
Under the decision adopted, the quotas of export, on which customs duties are not charged, on seven products, for which tariff contingents are still enforced, will double during one year. It is about: tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, sweet cherries, plums and grapes juice. Moldova was exporting plums and grapes out of these products in large quantities to Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
