Former Moldovan parliament speaker prosecuted for illicit enrichment

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ - The former parliament speaker, Andrian Candu, is prosecuted for illicit enrichment. Following the carrying out of more searches at the home of the former speaker, Candu was heard by anticorruption officers and prosecutors.
According to the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), a notification of the National Integrity Authority (ANI), which made the control of the wealth and personal interests of the former official, served as ground for the opening of a criminal file.
Thus, prosecutors found out that, on the period January 2015 – July, the former parliament speaker would have got a quota of a limited company and would have supplied the family’s budget with unjustified financial means worth about 800,000 lei (about 40,000 euros). Also, on the period August 2016 – March 2020, Candu would have increased his wealth with financial means and real estate, by using money worth about 4.5 million lei from unjustified sources to this end.
To strengthen the evidence, anticorruption officers and prosecutors today morning made searches at the home of the former MP also in another three real estate owned by him. The former parliament speaker was recognized as suspect and is heard by CNA.
