Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - The former Moldovan president, Igor Dodon, has received another 30 days of home arrest. Magistrates of the Chisinau Court, Ciocana district, issued a ruling to this effect today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), Marian Cherpec, said that, at the extension of the home arrest, the judges had maintained the same restrictions from the earlier warrant; although prosecutors demanded the limiting of phone conversations and sending of emails, as well as of the use of other communication means.
„Taking into account that the investigating judge turned down the prosecutors’ demand, anticorruption prosecutors are to appeal the court’s ruling at the Chisinau Court of Appeal,’’ Cherpec noted.
The former Moldovan president was detained in last mid-May, being suspected of committing the following offences: passive corruption, acceptance of political party’s financing by a criminal organization, high treason and illicit enrichment.
Igor Dodon was head of state on the period 2016-2020.
