Only four political parties used funds for actions to promote participation of women, young people in political, electoral process

Chisinau, August 10 /MOLDPRES/- Only four political parties, out of the 28 that benefited from subsidies from the state budget, reported the use of financial resources for actions to promote and encourage the participation of women and young people in the political and electoral process.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), each of the political parties that benefit from money from the state budget is to use 20% of the annual allocations to promote and encourage women's participation in the political and electoral process. At the same time, 10% of the annual allocations are to be used to promote and encourage young people in the political and electoral process. In the case of political parties where there are women's and youth organizations, these funds will be managed by the organizations concerned.

Thus, in the first semester of the current year, 28 political parties, out of the 55 registered at the Public Services Agency, benefited from state subsidies totaling over 19.3 million lei (about 965 thousand euros).

According to financial management reports, only four political parties complied with the law and reported expenditures to promote the participation of women and youth in the political and electoral process. These are: the Action and Solidarity Party, the Christian-Social Union Party of Moldova, the European People's Party of Moldova and the Home Democracy Party. At the same time, 10 other political parties declared expenses less than the established quota, and 14 formations did not declare expenses for this purpose.

The CEC announced that political parties that did not reach the special quotas of 10% and 20%, respectively, have the opportunity to recover the deficiencies and reach these quotas in the second semester of the current year.

Also, the electoral body warned that if these rules are not respected or the financial sources are used for other purposes, contravention procedures may be initiated. The penalty for these violations is up to 15,000 lei and applies to persons with a responsible position within the formation.
