Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova today submitted to Brussels the first report on the progress made in the European integration process. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with Foreign Affairs Minister of the Netherlands Wopke Hoekstra in Chisinau.
The Moldovan diplomacy head said that the report presented the results achieved by Moldova in each sector. ‘’The document contains 1,000 pages. Thirty three working groups are involved in the carrying out of the reforms. Moldova is prepared for launching the negotiations on accession to EU. On this way, we enjoy including the support of the Netherlands, for which I thanked today my counterpart Wopke Hoekstra, with whom I exchanged opinions on our country’s efforts on the European integration way and the fact how we advanced in the implementation of those nine recommendations coming on behalf of the European Commission. We made important progress, including in the justice sector; I mean the Shor file and the return of the Chisinau International Airport to the state’s management. A good deal of the recommendations have been already fulfilled; yet, there are still the others lasting ones.’’ Nicu Popescu said.
The visit by Foreign Affairs Minister of the Netherlands Wopke Hoekstra takes place in the context of the opening of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Chisinau. ‘’The opening of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Moldova will strengthen the bilateral relations in the political, economic and financial fields. We appreciate much the ambitious programme of the government and the determination in the country’s European integration. It is quite important that there is an independent judicial system and the improvement of the business climate for attracting investments. We are ready to provide financial support, in order to back the reforms’ implementation. I am sure that Moldova’s future is in EU,’’ Wopke Hoekstra said.
The European Parliament’s plenum today adopted a resolution, thereby asking for the starting of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union till the end of the 2023 year, after the fulfillment of those nine recommendations set forth by the European Commission.
