Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - The head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), Veronica Dragalin, today gave a news conference, during which she provided details from the file of the fled MP, Ilan Shor. She said that 60 court sessions had been held on the file.

According to Dragalin, 12 out of those 60 court sessions were postponed at a request by the defenders or as a result of the challenging by the defenders of the panel. About ten court sessions were adjourned for various reasons, including the impossibility of creating the panel or lawyers’ failure to come to the session, impossibility for witnesses to come to the session. ‘’At each court session, the state accuser was present and as late as on 13 April, the Chisinau Court of Appeal pronounced the final sentence and convicted him for 15 years of imprisonment,’’ the PA head said.

Dragalin noted that the file had been procrastinated, stressing that PA would come up with proposals on the amendment of the Criminal Code, in order to prevent eventual offences.

On 13 April evening, after two hours of judicial discussions, the Chisinau Court of Appeal pronounced the operative part of the judgement, which is part of the Bank Fraud file, under which Ilan Shor was recognized as guilty and a final verdict was issued on Shor’s sentencing for 15 years of imprisonment in a close-type penitentiary, with the deprivation of the right to hold offices in the banking system for a five-year period.

Under the decision, Ilan Shor is to return over 5.2 billion lei (260 million euros). The ruling can be appealed at the Supreme Court of Justice, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said.
