Well-known Moldovan fine artist, writer paid homage at Academy of Sciences

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled, Word and Colour, by fine artist Leonid Popescu today was inaugurated at the headquarters of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM). At the same event, two novels by Popescu, who has recently turned 70, were launched.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, Leonid Popescu said that the exhibition comprised 24 painting works of Christian inspiration, made during years. ‘’The exhibition is also homage brought to the Romanian language and the Latin script, recently laid down in Moldova’s Constitution as well. I launched the exhibition and the two books at more culture centres from Moldova and Romania. The latest launches took place in Baia Mare and Sighetul Marmatiei, Romania,’’ the author said
In the beginning of the event, ASM President, academician Ion Tighineanu highly appreciated the activity of Leonid Popescu, who made painting, graphic, monumental art.
Leonid Popescu was born in the Saratenii Vechi village, central Telenesti district, on 22 March 1953. He graduated from the Chisinau-based Alexandru Plamadeala Fine Arts College and the Design Faculty – industrial art of Institute of Arts and Design from Kharkiv, Ukraine. He is member of the Fine Artists’ Union of Moldova and Moldovan Writers’ Union. In 2001, he was awarded the Master in Arts honorific title, the Order of Honour in 2013 and the People’s Artist honorific title in 2016. Popescu is also holder of the Andrey Rublev order of the Russian Patriarchy. Leonid Popescu has works in public and private collections in Moldova and abroad.
