Moldova to borrow USD 40 million from World Bank to modernize schools, kindergartens

Chisinau, April 21 /MOLDPRES/- The World Bank will provide financial support to Moldova for the modernization of schools and kindergartens. The members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved today the initiation of negotiations for the conclusion of agreements.
Thus, the World Bank will provide a 40 million dollar-loan. Also, Moldova will benefit from non-refundable financial assistance wprth 4.8 million dollars, offered by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). At the same time, the Early Learning Partnership (ELP) Multi-Donor Trust Fund Grant Agreement will be negotiated, involving a 5 million dollar-grant.
The money will be used for the implementation of the Education Quality Improvement Project. Thus, about 15 schools and the same number of kindergartens will be renovated and three new high schools will be built. The agreement also involves the implementation of support tools for children who fail in education, the provision of modern teaching and play materials for kindergartens and the strengthening of human capital in the education sector.
