Chisinau, April 26 /MOLDPRES/- Mayors of several localities in our country, which have so far implemented projects under the European Village Program were invited today to the cabinet meeting, and the expansion of the program was also approved by launching the Express European Village initiative.
"I'm glad that mayors who are part of the 100 who completed projects are with us today. It is good practice to invite constituents from our society to attend the meeting. We need to expand this practice. I hope the program is encouraging enough for the citizens, it is a support for the mayors and the local public administration, because this is how we build Europe at home. I am glad that street lighting, landscaping, water and sewage projects have a decentralized funding source and stimulate local initiative. The government aims to find and allocate as many resources as possible. The European Village program finances over 490 projects throughout the country with a budget of 1.8 billion lei. Thus, we increase the capacity of the local public administration to administer projects and prepare for large-scale initiatives, when we will move to the next stage of European integration and will be able to benefit from pre-accession funds. Today we will have the continuity of this program, as announced by President Maia Sandu - Express European Village and we hope that it will encourage citizens and the local administration to benefit from new opportunities", Prime Minister Dorin Recean said at the cabinet meeting.
The mayors present at the meeting welcomed the launch of the Express European Village initiative, noting that it will allow the development of localities and improve the quality of life of citizens.
So far, 100 projects under the European Village Program have been completed, with around 123 million lei invested. President Maia Sandu announced yesterday that she requested the Government to open the call for a new project competition - "Express European Village", which would allow localities to carry out quick projects, in a maximum of six months, the implementation of which requires less financial resources.
