Every third Moldovan suffers from high blood pressure

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 34.8 per cent of the adults in Moldova have been detected with high blood pressure, and 13.4 per cent of them keep the hypertension under control. The National Public Health Agency (ANSP) made public data to this effect, in the context of the World Hypertension Day.
According to the National Health Insurances Company, this year, the subject of the event is, Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, you live longer!, and is focused on the raising of the degree of awareness of the importance of the early control and accurate ways of measuring the blood pressure, especially in the countries with low and medium incomes.
Specialists say that over 10 million lives are annually lost because of the hypertension. In the world, the number of adults with ages between 30 and 79 years with hypertension has increased from 650 million to 1.28 billion in the last 30 years; most of these people (two thirds) live in countries with low and medium incomes. They estimate that 46 per cent of the adults globally do not know that they suffer from high blood pressure and only 1 out of 5 of them (21 per cent) keep their blood pressure under control.
