Moldova's National Army carries out Shield of Peace 2023 exercise

Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Shield of Peace 2023 exercise is held at the National Army’s training centre on 19-30 June.
According to an acting head of department, colonel Sorin Bacalu, the entire strength of the peacekeeping Battalion 22 Blue Helmets will be assessed at the exercise this year, in line with the Operational Concept Capability (OCC). The military are verified as to the fulfillment of missions specific for the scenes of international peacekeeping operations.
In the context, the peacekeepers will be examined as regards the fulfillment of missions of patrol, convoy and escort, searching of vehicles at control points, ensuring the security of strategic objects, medical evacuation, as well as the providing of the first medical aid.
The military unit will be tested by national and international assessors from France, Turkey, Morocco, Norway, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Romania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, United States and United Kingdom.
The Operational Concept Capability is an instrument of cooperation within the Partnership for Peace Programme, the goal of which is to implement the western standards in the training and evaluation of the units declared. The OCC certification is a compulsory condition for the National Army’s participation in peacekeeping missions under the UN aegis, including KFOR in Kosovo and UNIFIIL in Lebanon. The National Army joined OCC in 2007.
