Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti will start consultations with parliamentary groups, in order to designate a new prime minister early next week. Timofti made statements to this effect at a meeting with members of the interim government today.

After Timofti today had designated Acting Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman as interim prime minister, he said that „he hopes that this interim period will not last too much."

„Immediately after the runoff local elections, I will invite the parliamentary groups to consultations, in order to nominate a candidate for the office of prime minister. I urge the parliamentary fractions to focus on this goal of absolute priority,” Timofti specified.

Timofti requested the interim cabinet of ministers that „direct payments and returns, economic and diplomatic processes, security of Moldova and citizens be ensured responsibly and promptly."

Under the Constitution, the interim government fulfills only the duties of managing public affairs till a new cabinet of ministers is sworn in office.  Nicolae Timofti is to designate a new candidate for the office of prime minister within three months after the government’s resignation at the latest.

The Gaburici government was sworn in office on 18 February 2015. Chiril Gaburici announced his resignation on 12 June.
