Moldovan acting foreign minister designated as interim premier

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman was designated as interim prime minister.
President Nicolae Timofti made statements to this effect at a meeting with members of the government at the state residence today, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Timofti highlighted the importance to ensure the continuity of social and economic projects with direct impact on people’s life, as well as the observance of commitments assumed before the citizens and international partners. „I hope that this interim period not to last too much. Immediately after the roundoff local elections, I will invite the parliamentary groups to consultations in order to designate a candidate to the office of prime minister. It is important that the procedures stipulated by the Constitution, from consultations to creation of a new government, to fit into a period of time as short as possible, so that Moldova to have a fully empowered government,” Timofti said. Timofti wished every success to the acting cabinet for the months to come.
Natalia Gherman thanked Nicolae Timofti for the provided confidence and willingness to offer all support of the interim prime minister and acting government. As interim prime minister, Natalia Gherman is set to ensure the execution of prerogatives and duties defined in the article 7 of the Law on government. „The main goals will be to ensure the functioning of institutions in all priority areas, to ensure continuity of processes and underway projects when the mandate was full, to ensure the public order in Moldova. I hope that this interim period to be as short as possible, as Moldovans need a stable government, a responsible government, in order to continue those pro-European reforms started and to continue Moldova’s European path,” Gherman said.
Natalia Gherman will lead the acting government till a new cabinet of ministers is sworn in office.
