Moldovan electoral body sums up results of 14 June local elections

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today approved a report on summing up the results of the 14 June general local elections.
CEC head Iurie Ciocan said that the voter turnout was 49.02 per cent at the polls, "which represents more than one fourth of the number of voters registered in the electoral lists".
Ciocan said that the runoff for mayors' election would be held in 457 settlements on 28 June. Mayors and councilors will be elected in the Topala village (Cimislia), were the voting process was declared null, Ulmu village (Ialoveni), were the participation rate was not met and Trebisauti settlement (Briceni), were the voting process was contested.
Ciocan said that all data of the reports got from electoral districts had been compared with the ones of the electronic system and checked in terms of compliance with legal norms.
"In three Moldovan settlements, namely Cepeleuti (Edinet), Iserlia (Basarabeasca), Trifanesti (Floresti), the second candidate for the mayor office, at the polls due 28 June, was elected by drawing lots, as the electoral contenders from the 2nd and 3rd positions had the same number of votes," he said.
The votes of the first ballot will be recounted in two settlements, Singerei town, and Tintareni village, Anenii Noi.
