Romania to back Moldova to implement security, defence reform programmes

Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/ - Romania is willing to support Moldova to implement programmes on reform and modernisation of the security and defence sectors, including via the assistance package Moldova Defence Capacity Building, which the allied ministers are to adopt at the NATO Headquarters today. Romanian Defence Minister Mircea Dusa made statements to this effect at a working meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Viorel Cibotaru in Brussels on 23 June. 

Dusa congratulated Cibotaru on this evolution, which represents an important political sign of NATO’s commitment to back the Moldovan authorities’ efforts to strengthen national security and defence. 

Viorel Cibotaru thanked Romania for the very solid, active and perceptible support provided to Moldova, in order to achieve this desideratum. ”In the present security context, Moldova and  the NATO share also common worries; therefore, our cooperation as to enhance regional security is very important,” Cibotaru said. 

Viorel Cibotaru pays a visit to the NATO Headquarters, at an invitation by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, where the allied ministers are to adopt the assistance package Moldova Defence Capacity Building today. After a 23 June meeting with Viorel Cibotaru, Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance observed Moldova’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence. 

Stoltenberg thanked Moldova for the participation of Moldovan servicemen in NATO-led operation in Kosovo, highlighting that , in this way, Moldova shows that it is a provider of peace and stability.
