Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/- The World Bank on 25 June made public the final variant of a note on forest policy, which provides an independent opinion on the forestry sector of Moldova. The document includes a set of recommendations meant to contribute to defining the goals of the field and identifying opportunities needed to be taken into account while implementing the WB cooperation strategy.

The document is written in Romanian and English. The working team was made up of representatives of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, World Bank, UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, in partnership with Moldsilva State Agency and Forest Research and Management Institute.

The WB strategy of partnership with Moldova recognizes that the forestry sector plays an important role in ensuring competitiveness and mitigating climate change, but it did not benefit from the attention it deserves.

Under the document, the WB has to be informed in elaboration of forestry projects, by emphasizing the main problems and identifying possible actions of settlement.

Presently, the WB is involved in some activities related to Moldova's forestry sector, such as projects on agricultural competitiveness, sustainable lands management and ENPI FLEG (European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument Forest Law Enforcement and Governance) programme. In the long run, the WB is likely to back modernising forestry and research institutions, sustainable provision with wood products, creation of energy plantations, stable and diversified forests, etc.
