Moldovan electoral body presents preliminary results of 28 June local elections

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today presented the preliminary results of runoff election.
CEC head Iurie Ciocan said that "after receiving all reports from districts, they will be compared to the data from electronic system and if they coincide, will be considered as final data".
Ciocan said that after the runoff election, most mayors had been elected from the Democratic Party (140), followed by the Liberal Democratic Party (104), Party of Communists (46), Liberal Party (39), Party of Socialists (29) etc.
At the same time, in Topala village, Anenii Noi, where repeated voting took place, both candidates picked up the same number of votes. In this context, Ciocan noted that there was possibility to organise a new round for electing mayor in the settlement.
In Chisinau, after processing 100 per cent of reports, Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca became winner, getting 53.54 per cent of votes, whereas Socialist Zinaida Greceanii grabbed 46.46 per cent.
Socialist leader Igor Dodon said he did not recognize the election results, "due to hundreds of violations, which he will contest".
For his part, Ciocan said that "these appeals will be filed in court, which will exhibit about the lawfulness of the electoral process and validation of mandates".
On 28 June, the runoff election was held in 457 settlements, and repeated voting took place in other two settlements.
