Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Central District Court decided the recount of votes for the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) today. The decision was taken as a result of a request by Socialists, who contested the results of elections for CMC on 14 June.

Under the Electoral Code, the recount will be done in 7 calendar days since the date of adoption of the respective decision at latest. The recount is made by the same electoral body, except electoral structures guilty of fraud.

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) is to decide the place and time when all commissions of polling stations would be convened in order to make the recount.

As a result of the 14 June local general elections, the pro-European parties (Liberal Democratic, Democratic and Liberal Parties) got 26 mandates in CMC, whereas the leftist ones got 25 mandates.

Socialist leader Igor Dodon have declared previously that, by votes recount, his party is to get an additional mandate in order to create a majority in CMC together with the other leftist parties (Party of Communists and Our Party).

After the recount, magistrates will decide if elections for CMC to be validated or not.
