Moldovan Liberal Democrat, Democrat, Liberal leaders describe local elections results as victory of pro-European forces

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The local general elections in Moldova were won by the pro-European parties. The Liberal Democrats, Democrats and Liberals leaders made statements to this effect today.

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Vlad Filat, said that the results of elections represent „a victory of Moldova gained in extremely difficult conditions, such as cases of violence, corruption and propaganda from outside”.

Democrat leader Marian Lupu said that „the results got by the pro-European parties convey an important message and namely that the European development path cannot be negotiated in Moldova”. 

Liberals’ leader Mihai Ghimpu also was confident „that the European path, which he assumed in 2009, will continue”.

Those three leaders congratulated the winner of the run-off local elections in Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca. For his part, Chirtoaca said that „hope which was re-given on 28 June to Moldovans to continue the European integration will be justified, materialised and gotten to a firm result”.

The Council of the Alliance for European Moldova (AME) held a meeting today. In the context, Vlad Filat invited public Mihai Ghimpu to accept to start talks on creation of a new government as soon as possible.

As a result of the 28 June run-off local elections, Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca got the third mandate for the office of Chisinau mayor, after he got 53.54 per cent of votes, whereas Socialist Zinaida Greceanii got 46.4 per cent. The leader of the Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, said that he denies these elections and will contest them.
