Moldova to boost economic cooperation with Tajikistan

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ - The second meeting of the Moldovan-Tajik intergovernmental commission for economic, scientific, technical and scientific cooperation was held in Dushanbe today. Moldova’s delegation was led by Acting Economics Minister Tudor Copaci and the Tajik one – by the head of the State Committee for Investments and Public Property Management, Kodir Kosim.
According to sources from the Economics Ministry, the officials tackled issues of common interest in the agro-food, industrial, investment sectors and the one supporting small and medium enterprises, health and environmental protection, energy, road infrastructure, regional development, education, science, culture, tourism and sports. In the context, the sides agreed to undertake a string of common measures, in order to implement actions set in the meeting's protocol and agreed on during bilateral meetings. At the same time, the officials were set to soon work out an economic cooperation programme between Moldova and Tajikistan for 2015-2020.
The first meeting of the aforementioned commission took place in Chisinau in 2004. Thus, the resumption of the commission’s work represents an opportune platform to advance and develop the bilateral economic ties between Moldova and Tajikistan.
The next meeting will be held in Chisinau.
Statistics data show that the trade turnover between Moldova and Tajikistan, without taking into account the activity of Transnistrian economic agents, stood at 1.99 million dollars in 2014. Moldovan exports were of 1.98 million dollars and imports - 11,000 dollars.
