Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu had a working meeting on a draft law on prosecution on 1 July. The talks were focused on identifying solutions and adjusting the draft in accordance with provisions of the law on special legal status of Gagauzia, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Attending the event were representatives of People's Assembly of Gagauzia, headed by its chairman Dmitry Konstantinov, acting Justice Minister Vladimir Grosu, the head of the commission on rules and immunities, Raisa Apolschi, and international experts.
The main issues were focused on procedures for selecting, appointing and dismissing chief prosecutor of Gagauzia, including his deputies, as well as organisation, remuneration and their skills.
Candu said that due to the efforts made by the international experts and the draft's authors, as well as according to an expertise by the Venice Commission, all solutions to the problems put forward by the Gagauz representatives had been identified.
The draft law on prosecution is to be completed and submitted for consideration to the parliamentary commissions. Under the new provisions, the chief prosecutor of the Gagauz autonomy will be selected on the basis of a public contest organised by the Superior Prosecutors' Council, according to the procedures set in the law, together with the People's Assembly, which subsequently, will propose candidate to the General Prosecutor.
"I express gratitude to the colleagues from Comrat that during the four meetings, we managed to find compromises on all issues, so that special legal status of Gagauzia should be fitted into the new law on prosecution", he said.
For his part, Dmitry Konstantinov said that solutions to all issues related to observance of the provisions of special status of autonomy had been identified.
"I believe that if we continue working in the same pace, we will contribute to developing a productive dialogue", Konstantinov said.
The draft law on prosecution, voted in the first reading on 29 May 2015, fits into efforts of authorities on building an effective, independent, transparent, professional justice sector, which should meet the European standards.
