Hundreds of Moldovans participate in actions commemorating great medieval ruler

Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/ - Hundreds of people today laid flowers at the monument of medieval ruler Stefan cel Mare, occasioned by the 511th anniversary of passing away of voievode. Attending the event were President Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Acting Prime Minister Natalia Gherman, politicians and culture people, clergymen.
Nicolae Timofti highlighted that Stefan cel Mare was a great ruler and man. „As long as we live on this land we have to commemorate and honour the memory of those who created this state. We have to be proud of what Stefan cel Mare has left us,” Timofti said.
Timofti made a connection between the today event and the political situation in Moldova. „I hope that the future prime minister to have the quality of the great ruler,” Timofti said.
Stefan cel Mare ruled over Moldova for 47 years, in the period 1457-1504. He fought in 36 battles, of which only in two he was defeated, and built 44 monasteries and churches.
