Moldovan parliament appoints ombudsman to protect children rights

Chisinau, 3 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today appointed Ecaterina Burlacu as ombudswoman for children's rights protection.
Burlacu, aged of 42 years, has a legal experience of over ten years within the general department of parliament's secretariat.
In her motivation letter, Ecaterina Burlacu says that the basic priorities for holding the position represent ceasing violence against children.
Also today, Burlacu took the oath for holding the office.
Under the legislation, the ombudsman contributes to protecting human rights and freedoms by preventing their violation, via monitoring and reporting the way the fundamental human rights and freedoms are observed nationally.
The ombudsman office is held by a person for a 7-year period, and mandate starts after the candidate takes the oath.
