Moldovan MP attends annual meeting of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - MP Sergiu Sirbu represents the Moldovan parliament in the annual session of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA). The meeting is held in Helsinki, Finland, on 5-9 July, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The meeting’s agenda includes meetings of those 3 committees – Committee on democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues, Committee on political affairs and security, Committee on economic, scientific, technological affairs and environment, as well as a meeting of the Permanent Committee and OSCE PA plenary meeting. 

The lawmakers will address items referring to crisis in Ukraine, situation of migrants and refugees, violation of OSCE principles and standards by Russia, weapon control, and legislative reform on fight against terrorism, climate changes and rights of minorities. 

More officials will deliver speeches at the session, among whom Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Finnish Foreign Minister Timo Soini, OSCE Chairperson in Office, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, OSCE Parliament Speaker Ilkka Kanerva, speakers of national parliaments. 

At the end of the session, MPs will adopt the Helsinki Declaration, which will include a string of recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly for OSCE member states as to political affairs, economy, environment and human rights. 

The event brings together about 300 MPs of OSCE member states, as well as observers. The topic of the meeting is ”Returning to Helsinki spirit”, making reference to OSCE document of establishment, signed in Helsinki in 1975.
