Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - Creating mixed police patrol teams resulted in the reduction of the crime rate and decrease of the duration of the intervention. Representatives of the General Police Inspectorate made statements to this effect at a press conference today.

According to Acting Interior Minister Oleg Balan, after setting up mixed teams made up of officers from the Chisinau Police Department, National Patrol Inspectorate and Fulger Special Purpose Brigade, the crews’ time of intervention was reduced from 15 to 5 minutes.

"Until recently, the duration of the police intervention crews was much higher and the chance to discover fresh evidence was reduced. Today it is much easier to track these crimes because police intervention takes place much faster, "said Balan.

For his part, General Police Inspectorate Deputy Head Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said crime rates fell during the three months following the implementation of these changes.

"The previously used methods were not of high-quality and the rate of discovering of offences was lower" said Cavcaliuc.

The mixed police crews were created in March 2015 in order to jointly patrol routes and act faster when the situation requires intervention.
