Group of Moldovan MPs pay study visit to European Parliament

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - A group of MPs are paying a study visit to the European Parliament on 13-14 July, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The delegation is made up of Deputies Raisa Apolschii, Legal Committee on Appointments and Immunities Chairman Andrei Neguta, Anatolie Zagorodnii, Valeriu Munteanu, Angel Agache as well as UNDP Deputy Resident Coordinator Narine Sahakyan. Officials of the Parliament’s Secretariat Chief of Legal Direction Ion Creanga and his deputy, Svetlana Cicati are also members of the delegation.
During the visit, MPs will discuss issues related to the functioning and competences of the European Parliament, the procedures for adopting EU legislation and harmonisation of the Moldovan legal framework to the EU acquis, citizens’ rights and constitutional affairs, interior policies of the European Union with MEPs and other officials.
The study visit agenda includes meetings with Vice-President of the European Parliament Rainer Wieland, the coordinator of the annual Programme of Cooperation between the European Parliament and Moldova's Parliament for 2015, European Parliament's rapporteur for Moldova Petras Austrevicius, Moldova - EU Parliamentary Association Committee Chair Andi Cristea. The delegation has scheduled talks with representatives of political groups in the European Parliament.
The Moldovan parliament has been selected this year by the European Parliament for a comprehensive cooperation programme for the first time ever. It provides for ensuring assistance to the Chisinau-based parliament in the approximation and harmonisation of national legislation with the acquis communautaire, capacity building for parliamentary committees, supporting territorial parliament information office, organising parliamentary seminars, organising study visits to the European Parliament, assisting the parliament in drafting the Rules of Procedure, offering scholarships for civil servants within the Democracy scholarship programme.
