Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The government is satisfied with that Transnistrian journalist Serghei Ilcenko was released and condemns the fact that the Transnistrian administration detained him in arrest for 4 months on political reasons. The Moldovan authorities would provide Ilcenko with necessary support in order to readapt to normal life after arrest, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
We remind that, on 18 March 2015, following his posts and attitude taken on social networks, Serghei Ilcenco was arrested in Tiraspol, being charged with pretended extremism actions. During those 4 months of illegal detention, the Moldovan authorities, as well as more NGOs and international institutions took efforts in order to immediately and unconditionally set free Ilcenco, as well as to respect the rights of his family.
Therefore, as a result of pressure and persecutions which Ilcenco’s son had to face, he was forced to leave the Transnistrian region and took refuge in Chisinau. The Moldovan authorities ensured him with accommodation and counselling necessary in these conditions, being also undertaken other steps in order to support him.
The state’s competent institutions will monitor the evolution on this case. Serghei Ilcenko and his family will continue to get all necessary support in order to re-establish their violated rights and social and psychological recovery as a result of persecutions they had to deal with.
The Bureau for Reintegration specified that, in order to prevent further such abuses, this case will be kept on the agenda of present dialogue platform with all actors involved in the Tranistrian conflict settlement as a very eloquent one regarding the observance of human rights in the Transnistrian region.
