Moldovan, German officials broach important issues

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/- Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov and German Ambassador to Moldova E.S. Ulrike Knotz discussed the current situation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement, issues related to the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, activity of working groups, as well as perspectives for continuing negotiation in the 5+2 format, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

The officials underlined the need to boost the ties between Chisinau and Tiraspol at all levels in order to identify solutions to the problems faced by the people from both banks of the Dniestre. In the context, Osipov said: "We are open for dialogue and we want it to be consistent and have finality for people. Although we go through a tense stage in our dialogue, we believe that it must be surpassed by returning to productive working, focused on getting results favorable for people and business environment, not on political ambitions. People need solutions and viable mechanisms that would ease livelihood and such possibilities exist".

E.S. Ulrike Knotz said that Berlin appreciated the pragmatic and efficient approach by Osipov, including the issues of negotiations, security and peacekeeping in the region. The diplomat expressed Germany's willingness to further back efforts of regulating the Transnistrian conflict and to offer support including the organisation of a conference in Bavaria this autumn.

Osipov thanked the ambassador for support, good bilateral relations between Moldova and Germany, and especially, for actively involving in the effort of regulating the Transnistrian conflict.
