Moldovan, European officials approach security-related issues

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister Natalia Gherman today met chair of the European Parliament Subcommittee on Security and Defence Anna Elżbieta Fotyga, accompanied by MEPs Bogdan Andrzej Zdrojewski, Inés Ayala Sender and Doru-Claudian Frunzulica, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The officials discussed review of National Security Strategy of Moldova, the country's participation in meeting the goals set within the EU Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.
"We are in the process of reviewing the strategy to assess threats and risks on national security, especially, in the context of the situation in the region. We rely on the EU support and expertise to this end", the official said.
Touching upon the cooperation with EUBAM, they welcomed the positive role of the mission in strengthening the cooperation with Ukraine, as well as the contribution to promoting the confidence building measures in the context of the Transnistrian conflict settlement, reiterating the position in favor of continuing the EUBAM's activity during the next years.
At the same time, the officials welcomed the decision to organise the first meeting of the parliamentary cooperation committee EU-Moldova on 20-21 September.
The MEPs' visit to Moldova on 20-23 July is aimed at familiarizing with the situation in the security sector in the context of developments in the region.
