Incumbent government intervenes in overcoming consequences of natural disasters in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - Interim Prime Minister Natalia Gherman today summoned the head of Civil Protection and Emergency Situations of the Interior Ministry, Mihail Harabagiu, requesting authorities to take more actions to overcome the effects of heavy rains in the evening of 26 July, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
According to Mihail Harabagiu, torrential rains caused significant damage. Hail and strong wind damaged the roofs of more houses and roads in Cotul Morii, Leuseni, Ivanovca (Hincesti district), and broke electric and telephone networks. Residents of the Singerei, Drochia and Soroca districts also suffered from the bad weather conditions.
The head of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations said that the service intervened promptly in the first moments following the calamity, the actions being carried out around the clock. "Currently, the service has all the means necessary to continue interventions in the affected settlements", said Harabagiu.
The interim prime minister urged the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations and local authorities to promptly intervene in helping citizens as well as continue to report on the situation, including on sanitary and epidemiological safety. Furthermore, Natalia Gherman requested the Veterinary Service and the Centre of Preventive Medicine to undertake the necessary measures to prevent any possible infectious diseases from spreading, including pollution of wells.
Interim Prime Minister Natalia Gherman also asked the responsible bodies to accurately assess the damages and identify the necessary means, primarily from local budgets, for the mitigation of the impact of the disaster.
Another topic discussed during the meeting was the dealing with high temperatures this season. Natalia Gherman requested those present to further ensure the functioning of emergency heat wave tents, water basins and the presence of warning signs. At the same time, the premier reminded those present to intensify measures to prevent fires.
