World Bank reconfirms support for reform, development policy programme by Moldovan government

Chisinau, 4 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet met the World Bank’s representative, Country Director for Moldova, Europe and Central Asia Alex Kremer today, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The officials addressed the bilateral cooperation priorities, implementation of joint projects under way and their prospects for development. The sides also reviewed the scenario of World Bank's 2015-2017 financing for Moldova.
„We highly appreciate the continuous support by the World Bank ,both at political level and via financial assistance, which includes important sectors for Moldova,” Strelet said. The prime minister highlighted the World Bank’s role in ensuring financial compensations, in order to remove consequences of drought, promote reforms in the energy and public administration sectors.
Valeriu Strelet showed Moldova’s interest in continuing the Bank’s assistance, via the budgetary support, as cooperation instrument, in order to benefit from planned resources.
For his part, Alex Kremer reconfirmed the World Bank’s willingness to help the new Moldovan government, so that, in this difficult period, the latter could ensure stability of the financial and banking sector, boost economic development, as well as to increase the social protection of Moldovans.
Kremer was optimistic about the prospects of development of Moldova and voiced the full openness of the Bank for cooperation. „Our recommendations regarding measures which are to be taken in order to successfully implement reforms are contained in the Policy Notes, worked out by the World Bank jointly with other development partners,” Alex Kremer said.
Moldova’s cooperation with the World Bank is carried out based on the partnership strategy for 2014-2017. The total budget of the projects, planned to be financed within the mentioned strategy, is of 450 million dollars.
