Moldovan cabinet approves law on ratification of Free Trade Agreement with Turkey

Chisinau, 5 August /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today approved a draft law on ratification of the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and Turkey, signed in Chisinau on 11 September 2014. To enter into force, the bill is to be considered and adopted by the parliament.
At the cabinet meeting, Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Stephane Bride said that, when giving final touches to the agreement, the competent authorities took into account „the priorities and economic interests of both states, including the trade turnover, degree of sensitivity of local markets as to some categories of import goods, as well as the form of liberalisation of trade with the latter”.
Negotiations on the aforementioned accord started in June 2011 and ended in last autumn.
After a meeting of the Moldovan-Turkish intergovernmental economic cooperation commission from February 2014, the sides said that Moldova and Turkey wanted the bilateral trade exchanges reach one billion dollars. The National Statistics Bureau said that Turkey had ranked eighth among the main sales markets for Moldovan goods in 2014, with supplies worth 105 million dollars. Moldova imported goods in amount of 300 million dollars from Turkey.
