Chisinau, 6 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Environment Ministry today reiterated that there was no danger to be ceased the activity of water intake from Vadul lui Voda, which supplies Chisinau municipality with drinking water, according to a press release by the mentioned ministry.
On 6 August, the flow of the Dniester river in Dubasari was of 131 m3/second. The water volume up to the retention level is sufficient in order to keep Dniester's constant ecological flow, downstream, for a week.
At the same time, The Apele Moldovei (Moldova's Waters) Agency addressed a latter to the leadership of the Ukrainian State Committee for Water Management in order to increase the flow of the Dniester up to 180-200 m3/second. „The water reserves of the Dnestrovsk reservoir from Ukraine would be enough in order to maintain the constant flow of the Dniester,” the communique reads.
Because of the lack of precipitation for a long time and high level of evapo-transpiration, starting from 3 August, hydrological drought is recorded in Moldova (yellow code). The drought's negative effects manifest themselves by draining of small rivers, wells, significant decrease of the water level in big rivers. The Dniester's water level decreased from 11 to 8.4 meters in the past two months, with the critical level standing at 8.3 meters.
At the same time, specialists say that the lowering of the water level on the hot period is a natural phenomenon and, at present, there is no reason for declaring emergency situation.
