Moldovan officials collect facts on experience of settling conflict in Northern Ireland

Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- Representatives of central authorities from Moldova have collected facts about the experience of settling the conflict in Northern Ireland, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

On 5-7 August 2015, the Causeway Institute for Peace-building and Conflict Resolution International, Crisis Management Initiative and the UK Embassy in Chisinau organised a fact-collecting visit to Northern Ireland for a Moldovan delegation. The visit's goal was to study the good practices for solving the conflict in Northern Ireland, institutional mechanisms created to establish peace and "transitional justice" concept.

Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov, head of the parliamentary commission for rules and immunities, Raisa Apolschii, the head of the legal department of the parliament's secretariat Ion Creanga, Prosecutor General of Moldova Corneliu Gurin, the head of Superior Council of Prosecutors, Mircea Rosioru, and representative of the Bureau for Reintegration, Senior Consultant Alin Gvidiani were on visit on behalf of Moldova. 

The Moldovan delegation held talks at the Law School from Belfast, Justice Ministry, Bureau of Prosecutor General, public prosecution service. They also had meetings with representatives of the government and parliament, different political parties, such as: 

Jeffrey Donaldson, member of Northern Ireland Assembly, Martin McGuiness, deputy first minister of Northern Ireland, representative of the well-known political movement Sinn Fein. The Moldovan delegation had meetings with activists of civil society involved in reintegration of opposite communities from Northern Ireland, as well as with one of the commissioners within the commission for human rights from Belfast.

The participants and international partners involved in the fact-collecting visit believe that it offered informative material and policy models, which will be useful for all state's institutions and and powers (legislative, executive and legal) in developing new policies and cooperation for Moldova's reintegration.
