We have common goal - to continue Moldova's European path by concrete actions, premier says

Chisinau, 11 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet met Head of the Council of Europe (CoE) Office in Chisinau José-Luis Herrero today. The officials broached the cooperation prospects in different areas, in which Moldova needs the Council’s support, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The sides also referred to justice reform and fight against corruption, prosecution reform, situation in the Gagauz Autonomy and Transnistrian region.
Strelet praised the Moldova-CoE partnership and interest the Council showed in monitoring evolutions in Moldova. „I am confident that the ties between Moldova and CoE will be deepened. We have a common goal – to continue Moldova’s European path not only by statements, but also by concrete actions,” Strelet said.
Street underlined the need to update the Action Plan (AP) on implementation of the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement. „Taking into consideration the delays, which were admitted in more sectors, we have to work out and approve a new AP as soon as possible. In this respect, we count on understanding and promptness of development partners in order to set and launch next projects within AP,” Strelet said.
For his part, José Luis Herrero reiterated Council’s willingness to back Moldova’s European path, to provide assistance and expertise where it is necessary. „We are open for talks and believe that we will further have an efficient dialogue. Moldova is an example for the states within the Eastern Partnership and you should keep the position of leader,” Herrero said.
The officials discussed the situation in Gagauzia and Strelet’s recent visit to this region. „We appreciate the attention paid by the Council to situation in Gagauzia. In this respect, we want to specify that the priority interests of the Moldovan authorities is to keep stability in this region and include Gagauzia in the economic development and European integration,” Strelet said.
Herrero congratulated Strelet on his swearing in office and wished him every success.
