Economic Council to the prime minister convenes in meeting for first time under leadership of new Moldovan premier

Chisinau, 13 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today chaired a meeting of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister, which focused on four main aspects: optimising public spending, improving the situation in the banking sector, boosting competitive environment in all areas and stimulating business development in Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The premier said that currently the government was in the process of developing an action plan to ensure the mitigation of the effects of the crisis in the banking system and economic stability in the country in a short period of time. Valeriu Strelet highlighted that he wanted an effective collaboration with all dialogue partners, including through the Economic Council to the Prime Minister. The prime minister assured that their views would be taken into consideration when planning the government's actions.
Finance Minister Anatol Arapu, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Ion Sula, officials from the Economics Ministry, National Bank, Competition Council and the National Food Safety Agency attended the meeting. They spoke about the intervention measures in the areas they managed, necessary to ensure in reaching the set goals.
For their part, business associations' representatives and economic experts have come up with proposals to improve the situation, especially stressing the importance of restoring the trust of the people and foreign partners towards state institutions. They noted the imminent need for more radical measures to stimulate business and turn into account the economic potential of the country. Furthermore, they stressed the importance of ensuring a fair competitive environment, reducing administrative barriers, cancelling constraints, simplifying procedures and reducing the costs of starting and developing a business in Moldova.
The next meeting of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister will be held in one month.
