International Taekwondo Academy to be launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today met International Federation of Taekwondo (WTF) (Olympic events) President Chungwon Choue, on a visit to Chisinau to participate in the launch of the International Academy of Taekwondo in Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Chungwon Choue said that this project would be implemented under the aegis of the International Federation of Taekwondo. The official said similar projects had been carried out in more states, which regularly organised seminars of training coaches and athletes in taekwondo from all over the world. The International Taekwondo Federation president expressed confidence that the Chisinau-based Academy would help Moldova develop sports, as well as promote a positive image of the country abroad.
The prime minister welcomed the idea of opening such an institution in Chisinau. "Taekwondo is, first of all, a very beautiful sport, practiced both by young and older people," Valeriu Strelet said.
Youth and Sports Minister Loretta Handrabura also attended the meeting. The minister thanked for the backing provided by the International Taekwondo Federation in promoting this kind of sport in Moldova.
The sides also discussed the possibility of introducing taekwondo as an optional course in the syllabus of educational institutions from Moldova.
