United States reconfirms support for modernising Moldova

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today met American congressman Steve Chabot, on a two-day visit to Moldova. The official was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Chisinau James Pettit, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister highly appreciated the U.S. support for Moldova and thanked the American Government for interest showed in the development of events in the country. "The pro-European government I lead is determined to continue the reforms underway. The fight against bureaucracy, eradicating corruption, creating the best conditions for economic agents and improving the citizens' life quality are the goals of the present government," he said.
The prime minister underlined the importance of continuing and deepening the strategic dialogue with the United States, launched in 2014, including resumption of the work of the joint commission on economic cooperation, as well as the working group for energy cooperation. In the context, Strelet reiterated the need to continue the second Compact Programme of Millennium Challenge Corporation. "We rely on the USA's support in strengthening efficiency and energy security of Moldova. We speak out for implementing joint projects on diversifying energy resources in our country, promoting Moldovan products on the U.S. sales markets, as well as drawing American investments in Moldova's economy," he also said.
Steve Chabot congratulated Strelet on his appointment to office and reiterated the support of the United States for Moldova's European integration. The official reconfirmed the USA's willingness to back Moldova in implementing the projects on reconstruction of roads and irrigation systems, agriculture modernisation and energy sources' diversification.
Steve Chabot is Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, member of the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Foreign Affairs.
