Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Federation of Unions of Workers in Banking and Insurance Institutions from Moldova (SIBA) have asked the authorities to consider possibility of paying a lump sum allowance to workers affected by the liquidation of the three banks.
The Federation addressed to the country’s leadership, parliament, government and National Bank of Moldova an open letter expressing concern about the situation of over 3,000 employees from Banca de Economii (Savings Bank), Unibank and Banca Social (Social Bank), who will remain unemployed and with no source of income, following the liquidation of the institutions where they worked.
In this regard, the SIBA Federation demands that decision-makers ensure the hiring of these employees at other financial institutions from Moldova and honouring their rights and guarantees, provided for in the Labour Code and the stipulations of collective labour agreements of the banking institutions.
A decision on the liquidation of the three banks under special administration is to be approved till 16 October. Previously, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet has given assurances that the government would come up with solutions for the approximately 3,000 employees in the shortest time. Specialists will be rehired, if the infrastructure of the three financial institutions is passed to other banks, which will pay money for this to the main creditor, the state, or other solutions will be found.
