Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet today met representatives of the Association of Agricultural Producers from Causeni, who announced that they would protest if they did not receive subsidies' arrears for 2014. The prime minister assured that these debts would be paid by 1 September, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

"Through the actions taken by the government I lead, we will prove that we want to continue developing and modernising our country. We need stability and we will do our utmost to regain the trust of citizens and development partners in Moldova", Valeriu Strelet said.

The prime minister reiterated that supporting agriculture and investments in this sector was part of the action programme of the cabinet of ministers. At the same time, Valeriu Strelet said he wanted a constant communication with farmers, to identify the problems they were facing.

For their part, representatives of farmers announced their decision to cancel the previously announced protests, stressing that dialogue was a more productive solution than going out with tractors on the Great National Assembly Square. At the same time, the farmers said they backed the actions of the government led by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, and were open for a continuous dialogue.

Access to credit facilities, greater transparency in the allocation of subsidies, increasing the subsidy fund, as well as approving the legislative package meant to support the agricultural sector, were among the other topics discussed with the members of the Association of Agricultural Producers from Causeni.

In the last four years, over 15,000 beneficiaries received subsidies amounting to about 2.2 billion lei.
