Moldovan retired persons with pensions above 1,500 lei to further receive state aid

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/-The cabinet today approved an amendment to the legislation, entitling more than 35.8 thousand retired people, which pensions reach a bit more than 1500 after indexation, to further financial aid.

The financial support ceiling reaches 1500 lei. After having their pensions indexed, some of the pensioners had suffered losses, as their pensions were higher than the respective ceiling. “The fact that hundreds of thousands of pensioners benefited from this ten-per-cent growth is good. At the same time, the fact that almost 35 thousand pensioners, which pension is higher than 1,500 lei, the value of the financial support ceiling, cannot benefit from this state financial aid, taking into account that their income decreased by about 60 lei after the indexation procedure,” Filip said.

The prime minister said that this difference must be removed, as one of the goals set by the government was social justice. “It is inadmissible that the social rights be diminished by even one leu.” Pavel Filip said.

“We had a similar situation in 2015, yet, there was no political consensus to intervene in this situation. The problem will be settled for good once the basic pension is established,” Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Stela Grigoras said.

The ministry proposes further providing state financial support, within the limit of the difference between the quantum of indexed pension and the state financial support before the indexation.

The draft law is to be submitted to parliament for consideration as priority.
