Moldovan PM meets public authorities in northern district

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today pays a working visit to the north-western Glodeni district. The agenda includes meetings with mayors, district councilors, economic agents and citizens on actions taken by the government to improve the social and economic situation by implementing the reforms in the business environment, carrying out development programmes in all national sectors, attracting investments and creating new jobs, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The visit started with a meeting at the district council. Filip talked to representatives of local public administration about problems of the region's settlements, solutions to them, as well as opportunities for development of the Glodeni district.
The prime minister noted that the regional development was one of the government’s priorities. In this context, a string of projects on wooing foreign direct investments in the national economy in such sectors as: infrastructure, energy and industry have been carried out, in order to ensure stability and resume development course in all sectors.
“While in January 2016, the state budget revenues were down by five per cent against January 2015, in February a 17-per cent rise was recorded against February 2015, and in March - a 23 per cent increase. Therefore, there is potential in Moldova not only to cope with costs, but also to resume investments. We have managed to index pensions by ten per cent and remove a part of debts on subsidies provided without support from abroad. We want Moldova to develop, to modernize”, he said.
Filip also said that an important goal was to regain trust and support of development partners. In this respect, the government managed to remove some of the current arrears in implementing the Association Agreement and resume talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “Just today, we are going to send a letter of invitation to IMF on resuming talks, and in June at the latest, we will have a negotiating mission of IMF in Chisinau. Having launched negotiations with IMF, we will unlock the credit installment from Bucharest, as well as financing on behalf of EU,” he said.
The participants in the event appreciated the government’s efforts on improving the social and economic situation, especially in the business environment and submitted a string of proposals, including as regards the nourishment of children in schools and kindergartens, young people’s access to preferential loans for buying dwellings, as well as attracting investments for the district’s development.
